More than 600,000 Americans have died of AIDS since the first case was diagnosed in 1981, more than all the U.S. combat deaths since the beginning of World War I. There are an estimated 30,000 people living with HIV in the greater Philadelphia area alone, and while awareness of HIV/AIDS has risen, there's still no cure.
